Hans Pfitzner piano . 8 Piano-rag-music (1919) 3.12 Igor Stravinsky piano Recorded: 5.VII. 1934, Studio Albert, Paris .I was going to write that the music of Hans Pfitzner is late-romantic - very late - and it is. However that does not mean that it sprawls. In fact, these three concertos, expressed in ‘old-fashioned’, 19 th century language span as long as 23 minutes and as short as 14 minutes. It is quite the opposite of what I would have expected of a composer of Pfitzner’s stamp.Classical CD review. This shows that she has been associated with the work for at least fifty years.

The work itself is a full-blooded romantic concerto which sets out with a blisteringly acrobatic challenge from the soloist, rivalling the rather better-known Busoni concerto in terms of sheer majestic force. The present work was composed in 1933-34 but was not performed until 2017 (with Michael Korstick as the soloist).
